About: Stuart Edward Michael Langley
I believe that every person deserves to be seen as more than a diagnosis.
While evidence-based practice is at the heart of everything I do, I believe it is even more important to understand the person sitting in front of me. Diagnoses can help us make sense of experiences and guide treatment, but they should never define who someone is or limit what they are capable of becoming.
My practice is grounded in compassion, curiosity and collaboration. Every person has their own story, strengths, values and aspirations, and my role is to understand these before deciding together on the most appropriate path forward. Rather than simply treating symptoms, I aim to understand the whole person and help create meaningful, lasting change.
I don't believe my job as a psychologist is to tell you how to live your life or what your future should look like. Instead, I see my role as walking beside you, supporting you through life's challenges, and providing the guidance, skills and scaffolding you need to build a meaningful life on your terms—not mine.
Therapy is a collaborative process. Together, we'll work to better understand your experiences, recognise your strengths, develop practical strategies, and navigate the obstacles that may be standing between you and the life you want to create. My hope is that, over time, you'll become increasingly confident in relying on your own values, strengths and resilience, knowing you have the tools to continue moving forward long after therapy has ended.
I am the Clinical Director of EM Psychology and a Registered Psychologist with more than 19 years of international clinical experience across the United Kingdom, South Africa, the United States and Australia.
Alongside my clinical work, I have held significant senior leadership positions, leading multidisciplinary teams, supporting organisational change and developing clinical services. These experiences continue to shape my approach to leadership, supervision and organisational consulting.
Today, my practice integrates a range of evidence-based therapies tailored to each individual's needs. I have advanced training in:
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
-
Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO-DBT)
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
-
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)
-
Schema Therapy
-
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
-

-
